18U AAA 57’s test depth during home stand

The Swift Current 18U AAA 57’s tested their depth last week with eight home games over seven days in the Saskatchew­an Premier Baseball

League.

Monday, they dropped both games to the Regina White

Sox. The 57’s lost the opener 15-11 despite scoring eight runs in the first inning. Nolan

Klein, Kelsey Rokochy, Dawson Schultz, and Cash Arntsen all had two-hit outings, while Klein scored twice and

Schultz and Arntsen each finished with three runs batted in.

The 57’s dropped the second game 18-8 when the White

Sox scored in six of seven innings, including a pair of fiverun innings. Kole Giesbrecht led the 57’s from the bottom of the order with three hits and two runs scored. Arntsen finished with two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI. Mac

Gross doubled, walked, and had two RBI. Brody Alexandre doubled, walked twice, and scored twice.

Wednesday, they split a pair of ‘road’ games in Swift Current against the visiting Regina Athletics to make up for a rained out date in Regina.

The 57’s needed only five innings to take the opener 12-1.

Brock Wall struck out six and allowed only two hits over five complete innings to get the win.

Ethan Murdoch hit a solo home run and finished with three hits, two RBI, and scored twice. Schultz doubled, singled, scored twice, stole a bag, and added one RBI. Klein doubled, singled, scored, and had three RBI in a game that eight starters scored in.

The Athletics scored in five of six innings to take the second game 18-14 despite a grand slam from Alexandre.

Gross tripled during a fourhit outing as he finished with three runs scored and two RBI.

Quinn Patenaude was on base with three singles and one walk and scored a run. Leadoff man Nathan Mcinnis singled, doubled, walked, scored three runs, and had two RBI.

Saturday, the 57’s split with the visiting Muenster Red

Sox. Muenster took the opening game 12-6 as they opened up a 7-0 lead and then scored six runs in the sixth inning to close the door on any comeback attempt.

Arntsen led the offense with three hits, including a double, a run scored, and a RBI. Gross and Klein each had two RBI in the loss.

The 57’s scored four runs on three hits in the second game to edge the Red Sox 4-3 as they took advantage of three errors.

Klein earned the win as he limited the Red Sox to three runs on seven hits and two walks and he struck out seven over seven complete innings.

Wall doubled and scored, while Mcinnis singled and had one RBI.

Sunday, the 57’s concluded the week with a pair of wins over the visiting Regina Athletics.

Playing their seventh and eighth games in seven days, the 57’s collected a walk-off win in extra innings in game one as they defeated the Athletics 6-5 when Arntsen’s ground ball scored Rokochy.

Mcinnis got the final 10 outs while holding the Athletics to three hits and one walk without allowing a run. Starter

Brock Wall limited the Athletics to six hits, four walks, and three earned runs over 4.2 innings.

Schultz led the 57’s with two doubles and one RBI. Gross doubled and brought home two runs, while Murdoch singled, walked and added two

RBI.

The second game wasn’t nearly as dramatic, but Murdoch hit a grand slam during a 13-3 mercy rule win.

Rokochy earned the complete game victory as he held the Athletics to six hits, three walks and three runs over five innings.

Alexandre finished with a double, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Mcinnis added two hits, one run scored, and an RBI from the leadoff spot. Gross was on base with a single and three walks, and scored twice. Wall singled twice, walked, and scored twice.
