Write Out Loud season line-up announced

The Write Out Loud Committee extends an invitation to Swift Current and area bibliophil­es to indulge their love for books by attending the upcoming season of author readings at the Lyric Theatre. Write Out Loud is pleased to continue the tradition of welcoming a host of interestin­g and accomplish­ed authors.

The line-up for 2019 -2020 includes: September 18 – Gail Bowen Popular Regina-based author of the Joanne Kilbourn Shreve murder mysteries, Bowen returns to WOL to share her latest, A Darkness of the Heart. October 16 – Angie Abdou

A fiction writer from Fernie, BC, Abdou’s latest work, Home Ice: Reflection­s of a Reluctant Hockey Mom, is an intensely heartfelt foray into memoir. November 20 – Dr. Erica Dyck

A University of Saskatchew­an professor and Canada Research Chair in the history of medicine with an emphasis on psychiatry and mental health, Dr. Dyck will present from one of her many publicatio­ns, Managing Madness.

Special addition to Write Out Loud

Saturday, November 16 – Ted Barris

Barris is a renowned historian, broadcaste­r, and journalist living in Toronto. His latest work is Rush to Danger: Medics in the Line of Fire. February 19 – Local Writers’ Night Line-up to be announced closer to the event. March 11 – Tenille Campbell Campbell is a Dene/metis author and photograph­er from the English River First Nation in Northern Saskatchew­an who will share her awardwinni­ng collection, Indian Love Poems, as well as some of her new work.

April 15 – Jeanette Lynes

A multiple-award winning poet and creative writing instructor at numerous locations in Canada, the US, and Europe, Lynes is currently Coordinato­r of the Masters of Fine Arts Writing Program at the U of S. Her second and latest novel is The Small Things That End the World.

Admission for each Write Out Loud evening is $8, and doors open at the Lyric Theatre at 6:30 p.m. Musical entertainm­ent begins nightly at 7 p.m., with the featured author to follow.

The chain wide fundraiser was held last Thursday in support of Canadians living with Multiple Sclerosis. $2 from every Teen Burger sold that day was donated to the MS Society of Canada.
