Dominant opening day for Colts Soccer
The Swift Current Comp. Colts soccer team met little resistance in a pair of blowout wins over the visiting Weyburn Eagles to open the Moose Jaw High School Soccer League on Saturday.
“It was a good weekend for the team. We were very happy with how the new members fit with the system,” said head coach Chris Garner.
The Colts opened the double header with a 6-0 win, led by three goals from Felix Danquah. Joel Reimer followed with a pair of goals, while Matthew Epp added a single.
Ethan Arnold picked up the shutout in goal.
After falling behind 2-1 early in the second match, the Colts were able to make on-field adjustments and rally back for a dominant 12-3 victory.
Danquah added four goals to his season total, while Khalil Fakhar, Jaedyn Carefoot, and Epp all scored twice. Dylan Adair and Alex Wollbaum added singles in the win.
“It was really nice to see Jaedyn find his touch in the second game with a couple stellar goals and play control,” said Garner.
Jared Steinley picked up the win in goal.
“Jared Steinley showed much promise in his first outing as keeper. He played a very heads up game and has much to be proud of,” added Garner.
The Colts are at home for a league game today against Moose Jaw AE Peacock at 4:30 p.m. at Irwin North Field. They head to North Battleford this weekend for a tournament.
