Dom­i­nant open­ing day for Colts Soc­cer

The Swift Current Comp. Colts soc­cer team met lit­tle resistance in a pair of blowout wins over the vis­it­ing Wey­burn Ea­gles to open the Moose Jaw High School Soc­cer League on Satur­day.

“It was a good week­end for the team. We were very happy with how the new mem­bers fit with the sys­tem,” said head coach Chris Gar­ner.

The Colts opened the dou­ble header with a 6-0 win, led by three goals from Felix Dan­quah. Joel Reimer fol­lowed with a pair of goals, while Matthew Epp added a sin­gle.

Ethan Arnold picked up the shutout in goal.

Af­ter fall­ing be­hind 2-1 early in the sec­ond match, the Colts were able to make on-field ad­just­ments and rally back for a dom­i­nant 12-3 vic­tory.

Dan­quah added four goals to his sea­son to­tal, while Khalil Fakhar, Jae­dyn Care­foot, and Epp all scored twice. Dylan Adair and Alex Woll­baum added sin­gles in the win.

“It was re­ally nice to see Jae­dyn find his touch in the sec­ond game with a cou­ple stel­lar goals and play con­trol,” said Gar­ner.

Jared Stein­ley picked up the win in goal.

“Jared Stein­ley showed much prom­ise in his first out­ing as keeper. He played a very heads up game and has much to be proud of,” added Gar­ner.

The Colts are at home for a league game to­day against Moose Jaw AE Pea­cock at 4:30 p.m. at Ir­win North Field. They head to North Bat­tle­ford this week­end for a tour­na­ment.
