18U AAA 57’s sweep visiting Moose Jaw Canucks in SPBL

The Swift Current 18U AAA 57’s played four games last week in the Saskatchew­an Premier Baseball League, highlighte­d by a pair of home wins over the Moose Jaw Canucks.

Wednesday, the 57’s dropped a pair of close road games against the host White Butte Broncos.

The 57’s were edged 3-2 in the opener despite a strong pitching performanc­e from Wyatt Harkes, who allowed only five hits, one walk, and three earned runs while striking out three over six innings.

Dawson Schultz and Connor Choo-foo both singled and scored. Rydell Adair also singled twice as the 57’s were held to four hits and one walk. Ben Patenaude had the only run batted in, while Cash Arntsen stole a base.

The 57’s dropped the second game 6-4. Schultz singled, walked, and scored the first two runs. Adair singled and had a sacrifice fly to pick up two RBIS. Ethan Murdoch had a two-rbi single in the final inning to cut the lead in half.

Kelsey Rokochy tripled and doubled, while Patenaude and Arntsen singled as they fell to 7-17 on the season.

Sunday, the 18U AAA 57’s earned a pair of wins over the visiting Moose Jaw Canucks.

The 57’s crossed home plate for five runs in the opening inning on their way to a 9-3 win to open the day. Rokochy picked up the win as he allowed only one hit over five innings. Harkes closed things out with two hitless innings in relief.

The 57’s knocked out 10 hits, led by Murdoch with a double, single, two walks, two runs batted in, and one run scored. Rokochy singled twice, stole two bases, walked, and scored twice. Schultz singled, walked three times, stole a base, scored, and had one RBI.

Arntsen singled, walked, scored, and had one RBI. Riley Bowers singled, scored, and brought home two runs. Patenaude singled and scored. Choo-foo singled, walked, scored, and added one RBI. Tyler Olfert singled and had one RBI, while Adair added a RBI.

The 57’s had another five-run inning in the second game and held on for a 5-4 win despite being held to two hits.

Schultz picked up the win as he scattered six hits, two walks, and four runs across 4.1 innings while striking out four. Harkes got the final eight outs as he held the Canucks to one hit and one walk.

Schultz helped his own cause with a single and two RBIS. Arntsen, Rokochy, Bowers, Evan Kobley, and Patenaude all scored, while Rokochy and Murdoch picked up RBIS.

The 57’s will play three home games this weekend beginning Saturday when they host the Regina Wolfpack (16-10) at 4 p.m. at Mitchell Field. They will also host the Saskatoon Diamondbac­ks (12-10) for a double header beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
