Locals participate in Golf Saskatchewan Senior Provincials
A number of Southwest golfers were in action at the Golf Saskatchewan Senior Men’s and Women’s Provincial Championships at the Legends in Warman on July 27-29.
Brent Wotypka, golfing out of the Elmwood Golf Club, tied for fifth in the Senior Men’s Provincial Championship. He was one shot off the lead with a 71 on day one and then followed up with a 71 on day two. Wotypka shot a 78 in his third round to finish five-over. Golf Kenosee’s Rick Hallberg won the title with an opening round 71, followed by a 65 and a 66 for a 13-shot victory.
Harv Martinez, also golfing out of the Elmwood, tied for 43rd at 22-over. He opened with a 77, followed by an 83 and then a 78.
Three Elmwood golfers took part in the Senior Women’s Provincial Championship. Denise Wilson finished in fourth at 20-over, 14 shots back of the winner, Kim Walker of the Wascana Country Club. Wilson shot an 80 on day one and then had her best round on day two with a 76. She closed out the threeround event with an 80.
Kathy Hopfner tied for seventh at 31-over. She had a consistent performance with rounds of 82, 82, and 83.
Swift Current’s Sally Wiens placed 13th. She carded rounds of 82, 92, and 87.
