Southwest competitor­s win events at nearby CCA rodeos

Four different Southwest competitor­s won their events at the Kyle Community Rodeo on August 7-8.

The hometown cowboy Kade Cheney earned the win in Bareback with a 75-point ride on City Stars for $643. Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram was right behind him in second spot with 73 points on Way North for $526.

Maple Creek’s Casey Bertram had a 76-point ride to earn the win in Saddle Bronc for a $586 payday.

Mankota’s Shawn Williamson added a win for the Southwest in Tie Down Roping when he finished the job in 8.6 seconds for $913. Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld was sixth in 11.6 seconds for $157. Williamson finished the weekend in top spot in the Tie Down Roping season standings with $3,158.

Maple Creek’s Kate Beierbach earned the win in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 13.980 seconds for a $216 payday.

Val Marie’s Riley Hayes led the Southwest in Steer Wrestling when he placed second in 16.5 seconds for $496.

Waldeck’s Tuftin Mcleod worked with Kody Potts (Peers, AB) to tie for second in Team Roping in 6.4 seconds for $1,665.

Lucky Lake’s Tucker Ayers and Travis Griffin (Elbow) were sixth in 11.0 seconds for $720. Shamrock’s Kevin Turner and Matt Switzer (Moose Jaw) were right behind them in seventh spot in 11.6 seconds for $450.

Waldeck’s Mallory Mallert was third in Ladies Barrel Racing in 14.14 seconds for $795. Swift Current’s Jane Corey and Eastend’s Haley Glasrud tied for sixth in 14.25 seconds for $304 apiece.

Val Marie’s Twila Hayes placed fourth in Ladies Breakaway Roping in 10.9 seconds for $76.50 in Kyle.

Another five Southwest cowboys and cowgirls won events at the Sandhill Rodeo in Lancer on August 7-8.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram earned a Bareback win close to home with 76 points on Sandhill’s City for $594. Brady Bertram is currently leading the Bareback season standings.

Waldeck’s Scott Mcleod and Swift Current’s Chad Feil won Team Roping in 4.9 seconds for $1,440. Tee Mcleod and Brady Chappel (Moose Jaw) were close behind in fourth in 5.9 seconds for $695.

Kate Beierbach won Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 16.24 seconds for $243. She leads the event standings with $847 earned at five rodeos.

Maple Creek’s Kahl Wasilow added a win in Junior Steer Riding with a 67-point ride for $189. Eastend’s Joe Vansandt was fourth with 62 points for $47.

Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist was second in Saddle Bronc after riding

Valley Side for 74 points for $291.

Tuftin Mcleod was back in the money in second spot in Tie Down Roping in 11.4 seconds for $518.

Cadillac’s Brooke Lang finished sixth in Ladies Barrel Racing in 16.2 seconds for $135. Lang is currently second in the event season standings, trailing only Brandon’s Bailey Mccannell.

Riley Hayes was also in the money in Lancer when he placed fourth in Steer Wrestling in 11.5 seconds for $118.

Hayes currently sits second for the Canadian High Point Award with $4,287. Tugaske’s Scott

Sigfuson leads the CCA with $5,527. Tuftin Mcleod is third with $3,725.

The CCA will return to the Southwest for a rodeo in Mankota on September 11-12 and the Bob Larson Memorial Rodeo in Val Marie on Sept. 17-18.

The CCA Finals will take place in Swift Current on September 24-26.
