Third generation business Voth’s Brandscource will be inducted into the SCBEX Business Hall of Fame during the upcoming 23rd annual Swift Current Business Excellence Awards.

Owner-operators Mark and Thom Voth were surprised with the distinction during a surprise announcement by Karla Wiens, CEO of the Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce this past Thursday.

“Obviously we’re extremely honoured,” Mark Voth said shortly after the surprise announcement. “When she told me she was coming in today I kind of thought maybe it was a nomination. We’ve been nominated a few times in the past. That’s what I was expecting, but to receive this is an honour that I never would have expected. So obviously we’re shocked, and surprised, and very honoured.”

Voth’s began operations in Herbert around 1954 as a general store, and over the ensuing years sold hardware before transitioning into electronics and appliances. Voth’s also ran a plumbing and heating operation in Herbert. The business then expanded into Swift Current and operated out of the old MCC building where they has a primary focus on electronics and appliances. Back in 2000 they opened up their current location on 1st Ave. N.W. and North Railway St. W., and expanded into furniture.

Both Mark and Thom Voth credit their current success on the trailblazing efforts of their grandpa, Uncle Abe and father Lorne.

“We are in business to support our families and our employees that work for us, and obviously our clients as well. We have always focussed very much on customer service, and I think that’s kind of a Swift Current community thing, customer service. And to be recognized in this way is obviously like I say a huge honour for us,” Mark Voth said.

“It points to the type of business that our grandpa, our dad, and our uncle all over the years have built. And we’re proud to be a part of it,” Thom Voth added.

“Obviously we have to thank our dad for most those decisions. He was the guy who was the brainchild behind coming to Swift Current and also moving down to this store. Thom and I haven’t had to take some of the risk that he’s taken, so we have him to thank for a lot of the base of what we’ve done around here.”

“We do try to be a one-stop shop for anybody that’s moving to Swift Current, or buying a new house, or building a new house. We do find that a lot of our customers say that exact thing, is it’s a one-stop shop for basically everything we needed in our house. We like hearing that kind of stuff obviously, and try to give anybody any kind of deal we can in those situations.”
