Smile Cookie support appreciated by Kidsport

-

Swift Current again rallied around the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie fundraiser in support of Swift Current Kidsport.

While the final total was yet to be tabulated, the support delivered through the three Tim Hortons locations in Swift Current has a big impact on giving Swift Current children a hand up to play sports by helping remove the financial barriers to participating. As of Friday morning, the Smile Cookie campaign was on par to easily surpass the $15,000 total generated in 2019, and potentially they could reach $17,000.

“People buying these cookies goes a long ways in helping kids play sports. For us it’s huge, in a normal year it’s around $50,000 we need, so $17,000 goes a long ways to helping us out for sure,” explained long time board member Kevin Patenaude.

Kidsport board members and volunteers were on hand at all three locations during this past week to help decorate Smile Cookies and raise awareness of where the

Kidsport support was utilized. All dollars raised in Swift Current stay in the community.

Patented noted this successful program helps provide almost one-third of their annual financial needs, but the Kidsport board is also in need of support.

“We’re looking for people who would want to come onto our board who are passionate about ensuring that kids in this community can play sports,” Patenaude said.

Interested people can approach any current board member to learn more about the volunteering opportunity or reach out to the committee via email at kidsportsc@gmail.com.
