Colts run over Vikings to remain unbeaten

The Swift Current Comp. Colts improved to 2-0 in the SHSAA 5A 12-Man Rural Football League with a 27-7 win over the visiting Moose Jaw Vanier Vikings on Saturday.

The Colts scored 20 unanswered points to break a 7-7 deadlock that occurred early in the second half as they wore down a shorthande­d Vikings team with a steady running attack.

The Colts opened the scoring with a 19-yard touchdown reception from rookie Derric Dulatre. The lead held up until early in the third quarter when Vikings lineman Peter Dumacal took the ball away on a sack and rumbled 75 yards to tie the game 7-7. The Colts quickly responded with a three-yard touchdown run from Zac Cloutier and the linebacker added a one-yard touchdown plunge in the fourth quarter. Running back Jayden Mcblain added a 13-yard touchdown to close the scoring.

The Colts won the turnover battle 3-1 with two fumble recoveries and an intercepti­on from Josh Budd.

Quarterbac­k Elijah Siemens finished nine-for-15 through the air for 93 yards as the Colts gained 342 yards of total offense with 17 first downs. Five different Colts caught passes, led by Dulatre with five catches for 68 yards.

The Colts controlled the ball and the clock with 249 yards rushing as eight different players carried the ball. Liam Rayner led the way with nine carries for 116 yards. Mcblain added 98 yards on 19 carries.

The Colts defense had another dominant outing as they held the Vikings to 133 yards of offense on 35 yards rushing and 98 yards passing. They have yet to allow a point in two games this season.

The Colts will return to league action on Saturday when they visit the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones. The Cyclones are unbeaten in two outings this season with 110 points for without allowing a single point against.
