Vivian Jean Lusk (1931-2022)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Vivian Lusk. Mom passed away on January 25, 2022 at the Lafleche Long Term Care Facility. Vivian was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Ken (2018), son-in-law Larry Eldstrom (2022), parents Ingvald and Isabelle Haugen, brother-in-law Bob Veitenheimer, father and mother-in-law Eleanor and Edward Lusk and brothers-in-law Leonard (Florence) and Ronald Lusk. Vivian is survived by her children: Valerie Lusk (Rick Barteski), Joan Eldstrom, Gary Lusk, Robert (Steffanie) Lusk and Katherine Lusk (Robert Carey); 11 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren. Vivian is also survived by siblings Webster (Loretta) Haugen and Winnifred Veitenheimer; sister-in-law Helen Lusk and numerous nieces and nephews. Vivian was born at Rosetown, Saskatchewan on April 2, 1931 and raised on the family farm at

Glamis, Saskatchewan. She graduated Normal School in 1950. Her first teaching position was at Smiley, Saskatchewan where she married the school principal, Ken. Several moves followed as Dad pursued his education career before settling in Swift Current to raise their five children. Mom was always busy cooking, canning preserves, knitting and sewing. We never knew how much work her famous peach marmalade was until we tried to make it ourselves. Vivian's greatest joy in life was her family. She especially loved her time spent at the cabin at Lac Pelletier with her children and their families. She overcame her fear of water to fish with Dad and would tour the lake in the paddleboat. Mom and Dad loved to host family gatherings and we all remember family reunions, “tall” fish stories, evening campfires and marshmallow roasts. Gardening was a passion of Mom and Dad's, and their favourite saying was 'living off the land'. Mom loved her crafts and for many years she would order Mary Maxim Christmas Kits, one for each of us, and spend late winter/early spring at the cabin making them as Christmas gifts. We cherish these gifts as family heirlooms. In her later years, Mom faced heath challenges with grace and dignity, always with a smile on her face. The gals at the health center often referred to Vivian as 'Smiley' or 'there goes the Glamis Girl'. Mom had her sayings that we repeated often to our children when they were growing up: “If you are going to do something, do it right” and “Sugar works better than vinegar”. Words to live by Mom. The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Kamel and staff at the health centre for their love and attention to our Mother. As per Mom’s request, there will be no funeral. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.rossfuneralservice.com. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
