REIMER Obituaries

-

Dr. Lawrence Reimer, age 68, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday morning, January 25th, with his wife Cindy by his side. Lawrence Lloyd Reimer was born June 28, 1953 in Swift Current, SK the second of four children to Abe and Adeline Reimer. Though he was born in the city, Lawrence was proud to say he was raised in Herbert, SK. Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 42 years, Cindy Reimer; his three children Landon (Kyla) Reimer, Michael (Natalie) Reimer and Alyssa (Joel) Boyer; his grandchildren, Ross, Wells, Adelyn and Harriette; his siblings Eunice Koehler, Barry (Michelle) Reimer, Melodie (Kevin) Olineck; and many extended family members. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, Abe and Adeline Reimer; his in-laws, Donald and Gladys Russell; his brother-in-law, Dr. Walter Koehler, his sister-in-law, Cheryl Parkes, and his best friend and cousin, Allen Harder. Lawrence graduated from Herbert High in 1971. He spent two years earning a medical lab technology diploma from SIAST and worked at the Chaplin mine. Lawrence decided to further his education by completing his bachelor’s degree in microbiology, which led him to pursue his pharmacy degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Although pharmacy wasn’t his lifelong calling, it was at this time that he met a younger pharmacy student named Cindy Russell. Lawrence and Cindy were married in Saskatoon on July 5, 1980. Upon graduation they moved to Medicine Hat, AB to start their careers. Lawrence’s career as a pharmacist was short-lived, as he made the big decision to go back to school and pursue a career in dentistry. This was his true calling and though he studied various subjects, he never lost his lifelong passion for learning. Upon graduation, Lawrence and Cindy settled in Swift Current to start a dental practice and raise a family. This led to 32 years

of owning a dental practice – an experience in which he and Cindy took immense pride, as it was truly a family affair. Lawrence was a genuine, dedicated philanthropist who donated his time and resources to provide dental services and education to communities in need. This included over 16 medical mission trips to Honduras (10), Dominican Republic (1), Jamaica (1), Haiti (2) and Ghana (2). A highlight was having each of his children and wife join him on one of his trips. The efforts of these trips were recognized when Lawrence received the Scotiabank Humanitarian Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2011. Though he never boasted of his trips, Lawrence’s family takes great pride in the substantial impact he left on so many around the world. Some of Lawrence’s favourite pastimes included collecting cars and rubber chickens, driving his skidsteer, farming, racing stock cars, hunting, traveling, and supporting his children’s activities. One of his greatest joys was managing the Reimer family farm which was passed down to him and his siblings. He took great pride in maintaining and enhancing the farm, which included renovations of the quonset, barn, homestead house and the construction of a new shop. In 2018, Lawrence was diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer and despite a difficult treatment, he fought back to good health. His life centered around his family, friends and business endeavors. He always took the opportunity to make someone smile and his sense of humour will be missed by many. What a wonderful legacy he left for Cindy and his family.
