A documentary produced in the Southwest is turning heads to this corner of the province after earning prestigious recognition.

Wild Prairie Man, produced by Overtime Communications in Swift Current, was the February winner of the Best Nature/ Wildlife Film category at the renown Cannes World Film Festival. After receiving this prestigious honour, the documentary is now entered in the annual competition and is vying to be the category’s Grand Winner and the opportunity to be screened at Cannes during the 2023 Awards Ceremony.

“Whether we win or not, I guess the thing I’m hopeful for is that this starts the conversation a little bit more about we have great stories to tell in the Southwest,” said documentary cinematographer and director George Tsougrianis.

Wild Prairie Man is a one hour documentary which shares a view of Grasslands National Park through the eyes of wildlife photographer James R. Page. The bulk of the footage was captured during Tsougrianis and Page making regular trips into different parts of the Park during this past June.

“What I would hope people will take away from it is that they have a better appreciation of what it takes to be a photographer. And that we try to look at the different elements of the park.”

“We touch on the wildlife. We touch on the landscape. We touch on the flowers and the vegetation that makes the park unique. So at the end of it you’ve got hopefully a much better understanding of what defines this park.”
