Mavis

1936 – 2023

Mrs. Mavis Grace Spady, formerly of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, went home to be with the Lord, at Red Deer, Alberta, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the age of 86 years. Mavis, daughter to George and Elizabeth Schreiner, was born and raised on the family farm in the Rush Lake, Saskatchewan area. Mavis married, and had two children, which she raised alongside her husband, Clarence on their farm north of Waldeck, Saskatchewan. Mavis worked in the Health Care System for many years, as well as assisting her husband on the farm. Mavis enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens, camping with family and friends, curling in her younger years and travel. Mavis’s great love was her involvement with the Full Gospel Church, where she enjoyed time with many friends. Mavis and Clarence’s home was always a place for young and old to gather. She was an amazing mother, grandma and friend to all. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandsons. After Clarence’s passing, she moved to Red Deer, Alberta to be closer to family. In her retirement and later years, she made friends easily and enjoyed an active social life, always quick with a laugh and a smile, striking up conversations with almost anyone. She was known for her sense of humor, and was a black and white, no-nonsense kind of gal. Her family and many friends loved her deeply and she will be forever remembered. Mavis will be lovingly remembered by her son, Darral (Margaret) Spady of White Rock, British Columbia; her daughter, Patti (Mike) Horn of Red Deer, Alberta; and her four grandsons, Jachin Horn (Margo) of Olds, Alberta, Jarrin Horn (Carol-anne), also of Olds, Alberta, Jason Klassen of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and Kirk Spady of Victoria, British Columbia. She will also be sadly missed by her two sisters, Audrey Monkman of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and Barbara Wiens of High River, Alberta. Mavis was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, a brother, Gordon Schreiner, a grandson, Brett Spady, and her parents, George and Elizabeth Schreiner. If desired, Memorial Donations in Mavis’s honor may be made directly to “The Storehouse” at www.frontlinechurch.ca. A Memorial Service will be announced in the Spring of 2023 and will be held in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. A Private Interment will take place. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040
