MARGARET SWITZER (ZIMMER)

-

Aug 26 1931 – Jan 26 2023

It is with profound sadness to announce the peaceful passing of our precious mom, grandmother and friend at 91 years. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Frederick in 2021. She is survived by her daughters and their families: Anne (Steve), Steve Jr.; Vincent, Jason; Karen, Kelsey (Anthony), Nathaniel, Everett; Kathy (Ross), Coral (Kyle), Kolby, Kyler; Shannon (Justin), Spencer, Sebastian. Mom was born in Grenfell, SK the tenth of twelve children to George and Katerina Zimmer. At age three the family relocated to the Pontrilis, SK area where they continued to farm. At fifteen years, Mom began working out as household help to local families with cooking, cleaning and childcare. Mom met Dad when she took a job in Hazenmore area. They married on June 10, 1953 where they farmed and raised their family south of Aneroid and Hazenmore. In 1974 they sold their farm and moved to Swift Current,

SK where she worked in housekeeping at the Palliser Regional Care Home until her retirement. When retired, they purchased a camper van and they hit the road. Finally, less work with time to relax, see the country and reconnect with family. She was known as a very talented seamstress and sewed many wedding, graduation and bridesmaids gowns for family and neighbours, as well as fashionable clothing for her daughters. Along with her beautiful flowers and shrubs, especially her love of roses, Mom was an ardent gardener, who always had a huge bounty of produce. As much as Mom loved gardening, she was an even better cook. In the last few years Mom had been working on and compiling her recipes to share with her girls and grandchildren. Her families, always looked forward to Mom visiting and taking over the kitchen. In spite of Mom’s limited school education, she was an avid reader, always having a book or two on the go. Mom was devoted to her family and had a quiet, patient, strength about her, that was trusting, giving and kind. She was so very proud of her girls and grandchildren and all their accomplishments. We love her so, and miss her dearly.
