The Swift Current Broncos won once in three attempts against a pair of Manitoba opponents last week.

Tuesday, a four-goal third period propelled the Broncos to a 7-5 win over the host Brandon Wheat Kings.

The Broncos fell behind on a Brett Hyland goal midway through the first period. They quickly replied with goals from Grayson Burzynski, Mathew Ward, and Josh Davies.

Brady Birnie scored twice for the Broncos in the opening 3:47 of the third period. Connor Hvidston scored the eventual game winner with a shorthanded goal. Josh Filmon added an insurance goal. Joey Rocha earned the win with 32 saves.

Wednesday, the Broncos allowed five goals in the second period of a 5-3 loss to the league leading Winnipeg Ice.

Caleb Wyrostok opened the scoring with a wraparound goal. Hvidston scored on the power play in the second period and then added another shorthanded goal in the third period, his 16th goal of the season.

Saturday, the Broncos were slow out of the gates in a 3-1 loss to the visiting Wheat Kings. Drew Englot scored the lone goal while shorthanded in the second period.

The Broncos fell to 25-24-1-2 with their second straight loss. They finished the week in eighth in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference, only two points back of the sixthplace Calgary Hitmen, but only two points up on 10th-place Brandon.

The Broncos will visit the struggling Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday and then host the Warriors on Saturday. They will also visit the ninth-place Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday.
