SENIOR SHSAA PROVINCIAL CURLING
SWAC had three teams playing in SHSAA Curling Provincials on March 10-11.
The Maple Creek mixed team was in Hanley. The Maple Creek foursome ended up pool play with a 1-2 record, but that was good enough for a threeway tie for second in their pool. They started with a loss to Watrous (3-9), rebounded with a win over Yorkton Sacred Heart (6-5) and lost to host team Hanley (5-8).
In the tiebreak round, Maple Creek played Yorkton once again. By winning 6-2, they were awarded second in their pool. In the semi-final, Maple Creek lost to Lampman (4-9) and went on to play for bronze against Moose Jaw Peacock. The Maple Creek team was never in trouble during the game (winning 7-4) and they brought home a bronze medal for their school. Congratulations to Louise Parsonage, Jayden Skrumeda Sawby, Kellee Parsonage, Morgan Udal, and coach Holly Jamieson.
Fox Valley girls traveled to Hanley. In pool round robin play, the Legends beat Saskatoon
Evan Hardy (7-6) and Wawota (6-5). They had a loss to Langham (1-8), placing them second in their pool. In the semifinal, the girls lost to North Battleford Comprehensive (2-8).
Fox Valley played Watson for the bronze medal, but it wasn’t their best game of the tournament. The girls lost 10-2 to place fourth in the province, a great accomplishment for this strong team of Brooklyn Schell, Kierra Herter, Haley Anton, Gracie Ross, and coach Kalin Deis.
Rosthern was the host site for the boys provincial championship. The Swift Current Comp. Colts placed first in their pool with a 2-1 record. They beat Wynyard 12-0 and Rosthern College 8-7. The Colts only round robin loss was to Yorkton Regional (4-5).
In the semi-final, Swift Current lost to Outlook (5-6), sending the boys into the bronze medal game against Yorkton. The Colts lost that game by a heartbreakingly close score of 5-6. The Swift Current team finished a very respectable fourth in the province. It should be noted that all of their losses were only by one point. This is a very competitive team at the provincial level comprised of Ethan Robinson, Riley Starkey, Troy Oakman, Sean Friesen, Shane Cornelson, and coach Ron Bailey.
SHSAA SENIOR BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS
