Wilson is the last man standing in WHL playoffs

Winnipeg Ice defenseman Wyatt Wilson is the only Southwest player remaining in the Western Hockey League playoffs.

The Swift Current native was facing the Saskatoon Blades in the Eastern Conference best-of-seven championsh­ip series. The Ice won both games in Winnipeg over the weekend to take a 2-0 series lead.

The Winnipeg Ice eliminated the Moose Jaw Warriors with a 4-2 series win in the second round.

Wilson had one assist and a plus-one rating in nine post-season games.

Game five, if necessary, is Friday in Winnipeg. Game six would be on Sunday back in Saskatoon.

The Seattle Thunderbir­ds were battling the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Conference championsh­ip series.

Ryan Mccleary’s season came to an end with the Portland Winterhawk­s

when they were swept out of the second round in four games by the Kamloops Blazers.

Mccleary, a Swift Current product, finished the post-season with one goal and one assist in nine games in his third season on the Portland blueline. The Pittsburgh Penguins prospect had 13 goals and 18 assists in 66 regular season games with the Winterhawk­s.

The Red Deer Rebels led the Blades 3-0 before losing the next four games to end the seasons of Kalan Lind and Chase Coward.

Lind finished the playoffs with two goals and three assists in 10 games. The Shaunavon product had registered 16 goals and 28 assists in 43 regular season games.

Coward appeared in two playoff games with a 4.76 goals against average and an .830 save percentage. The Swift Current native had sat out most of the regular season due to injury before returning late in the season to appear in four games.
