Wildcats open SFU18AAAHL season with home losses

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats opened the Saskatchew­an Female U18 AAA Hockey League regular season with three games last week, but were unable to produce a win in three attempts on home ice.

Wednesday, the Wildcats lost their season opener 6-1 to the visiting Regina Rebels. Stryker Zablocki led the Rebels with five goals.

Evangeline Hill scored the only Wildcats goal with assists from Kyla Benjamin and Olivia

Ferguson.

The Wildcats were unable to capitalize on seven man-advantages. Regina finished one-forfour on the power play.

Paige Fischer took the loss with 27 saves on 33 shots. Adriana Bachnick earned the win with 18 saves.

Saturday, the Wildcats allowed a pair of unanswered third-period goals in a 3-2 loss to the visiting Battleford­s Sharks.

The Wildcats led 2-1 in the first period on goals from Cassidy Peters and Alexie Palchinski.

The Sharks replied in the third period with goals from Sara Mcnabb and Maggie Rauckman, the winner coming with only 34 seconds remaining in regulation.

Cypress Classen earned the win with 30 saves for the Sharks.

Fischer took the loss with 24 saves. Amiya Jones had the lone assist for the Wildcats.

Sunday, the Wildcats scored first, but allowed two unanswered goals in a 2-1 loss to the Sharks. Hill got the Wildcats on the board early in the second period with assists from Raela Packet and Palchinski.

Anneka Aspaas quickly tied the game and Greir Slabaida scored the winning goal in the third period.

Classen made 34 saves for her second win of the weekend. Rookie Jordyn Ottenbreit made 26 saves for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will return to league action on Oct. 15 when they host the Notre Dame Hounds.
