Swift Current’s Drug Strategy Action Committee looking for some board members

Southwest Medi Centre is currently looking for a physician to take over Dr. S Bakare’s practice.

The Drug Strategy Action Committee (DSAC) is a local nonprofit organizati­on in Swift Current dedicated to engaging the community in a drug strategy that focuses on prevention, treatment, harm reduction and community justice. The committee is made up of volunteers from the community including two community health services staff that are elected by current members.

DSAC is currently seeking community members and profession­als to join the local board of directors. There are currently several vacancies to be filled as soon as possible. Appointmen­ts are generally two years in length and on a volunteer basis. Any community member with an interest in our mission, vision and/or goals is encouraged to reach out for more informatio­n and/ or to discuss available opportunit­ies further.

The vision of DSAC is to “prevent and eliminate substance abuse within our community”. DSAC values are as follows:

a) Healthy families determine the future of our community

b) Everyone should have access to treatment

c) Everyone has the right to live in a safe and caring community d) The community can prevent substance abuse DSAC goals are as follows:

Prevention: to increase education and awareness on substance abuse;

Treatment: to identify and address gaps in service Harm Reduction: to reduce the harmful effects of substance abuse;

Community Justice: establish a collaborat­ive approach in deterring abuse and related criminal activity;

Dr. S Bakare from Southwest Medi Centre will be closing his practice effective from December 31, 2023.
