Broncos return home from B.C. trip with matinee win

The Swift Current Broncos returned home from a five-game road trip last week as they look to climb the crowded Eastern Conference standings.

Tuesday, Mathew Ward scored twice to help defeat his hometown Kamloops Blazers 6-3. The game was tied 2-2 after two periods until Owen Pickering, Ward, and Rylan Gould all scored to distance the Broncos. Van Eger added an empty net goal. Josh Filmon and Ward had scored in the first period before Dylan Sydor and Connor Levis tied the game for the Blazers.

Reid Dyck earned the win with 40 saves. Dylan

Ernst took the loss with 21 saves.

Wednesday, the Broncos let a two-goal lead slip away in a 6-3 loss to the host Kelowna Rockets.

The Broncos led on goals from Josh Fluker and Clarke Caswell in the first period. Kelowna answered in the second period with goals from Max Graham, Tij Iginla, and two from Gabriel Szturc.

Tyson Laventure scored in the third period for the Broncos to make it a one-goal game, but Dylan Wightman and Max Graham scored empty net goals.

Dyck took the loss with 35 saves on 39 shots.

Jari Kykkanen made 28 saves for the Rockets.

Sunday, the Broncos

returned home with a 2-1 win over the Regina Pats.

Laventure gave the Broncos the lead late in the first period with a screened shot from the high slot for his fourth goal of the season.

He set up the second goal with a perfectly weighted centering feed to Clarke Caswell, who knocked home his third goal with 5:50 remaining in regulation. The Pats scored one minute later when Zackary Shantz scored from in tight.

Dyck closed the door from there, finishing the game with 23 saves to improve to 3-2-0 on the season.

Ewan Huet made 18 saves to fall to 4-3-0-0 for the Pats.

The Broncos finished the week in eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 5-6-1-0 record.

The Broncos host the Seattle Thunderbir­ds on Friday and then visit the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday.
