Legionnair­es sweep Wildcats

The Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnair­es won a pair of close games against the visiting Warman Wildcats over the weekend.

Saturday, the Legionnair­es won 4-3 in overtime when Triston Mitchell-mcelhone scored the game winner.

The Legionnair­es had led 3-1 in the third period before Warman scored twice in the final 3:07 of regulation.

Jacob Morris earned the win with 36 saves on 39 shots. Corben Schnurr made 16 saves for the Wildcats.

Kayd Ruedig led the Legionnair­es with a goal and two assists. Mason Fauser and Jace Egland also scored. Parker Rondeau and Griffin Darby each finished with two assists.

Ty Dauvin, Connor Bear, and Cohen Klassen all scored for the Wildcats.

Sunday, the Legionnair­es followed up with a 6-4 win behind 39 saves from Berney Weston.

Egland led the home team with two goals and one assist. Ruedig and Kade Stringer both registered a goal and an assist, while Rondeau had another two-assist outing. Connor Rieger and Jackson Fox also scored. Will Kirwan, Keegan Nash, Porter Nickason, Mitchell-mcelhone, and Camron Soulsby all added assists.

Corben Schnurr took the loss with 26 saves. Kaleb Dewar, Cade Hynd, Jack Janzen, and Bear all scored for the Wildcats.

Warman finished two-for-five on the power play, while the Legionnair­es connected once on four man-advantages.

The Legionnair­es sat third in the Saskatchew­an Male AAA Hockey League with an 11-4-2 record following the weekend sweep. Egland leads the league with 15 goals in 17 games. Weston is second with a 2.30 goals against average over 11 appearance­s.

The Legionnair­es will head back out on the road this weekend for two games in Yorkton against the Maulers (3-11-1).
