U18 AAA Legionnair­es take two of three in SMAAAHL

The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnair­es won two of three games last week.

Tuesday, the Legionnair­es defeated the visiting Notre Dame Hounds 3-2 when Parker Rondeau scored 14 seconds into overtime.

Kayd Ruedig and Jace Egland also scored for the Legionnair­es, while Bryant Linklater and Cameron Kuzma replied for the Hounds.

Kade Stringer, Mason Fauser, Rondeau, and Griffin Darby all added assists.

Jacob Morris made 27 saves for the Legionnair­es. Mariko Bercier made 42 saves for the Hounds.

Saturday, Berney Weston made 28 saves to lead the Legionnair­es to a 3-0 win over the host Yorkton Maulers. The Swift Current Broncos prospect earned his second shutout of the season while lowering his league-leading goals against average to 2.11 with a .934 save percentage.

Connor Rieger scored twice in the second period with assists from Jackson Fox and Sam Kirwan. Stringer added a third period goal with an assist from Camron Soulsby.

Sunday, the Legionnair­es dropped the rematch 5-3 when Wyatt Bouvier made 29 saves for the Maulers, who featured Swift Current’s Ryder Woods and Brady Simpson.

Rondeau, Kirwan, and Triston Mitchell-mcelhone all scored for Swift Current. Ruedig had two assists, while Rieger, Fauser, Porter Nickason, and Egland all added single helpers. Jacob Morris took the loss with 20 saves.

Lucas Hvidston led the Maulers with two goals, while Kierin Osberg, Tanner Wiens, and Aidan Vallance also scored.

The Legionnair­es came out of the weekend in second spot in the Saskatchew­an Male U18 AAA Hockey League with a 13-5-2 record.

The Legionnair­es will host the last-place Maulers (4-12-1) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Innovation­plex.
