Katherine Ramona (Penner) Pollard was born on June 14, 1935 in Rosthern, SK to Bernard & Katherine (Dyck) Penner. In her youth, Ramona moved around with her parents and siblings, as her father worked for the railway. Most of Ramona’s schooling was in Rosthern until the family moved to Saskatoon, SK where she completed her grade eleven and twelve, graduating from City Park Collegiate. She attended Millar Memorial Bible Institute (MMBI), now Millar College of the Bible, from 1953 to 1956 in Pambrun, SK. During the summers, Ramona worked at the Saskatoon Sanatorium. Later, she attended Saskatoon Business College and received her Secretarial Diploma. On September 17, 1960 Ramona married David Pollard and joined his Mission Point ministry in Canso, NS where they lived at Whitman House, now a historical site and museum. A year later, they moved to work at the Kingston Bible College in Nova Scotia but, after losing everything in a fire, returned to Pambrun to join the Millar Memorial Bible Institute staff. While David worked as Dean of Men and then eventually a teacher, Ramona worked as the MMBI secretary until their son, Colin (1970), and daughter, Charlene (1974), joined the family. When the children were a little older, Ramona took on the role of Campus Hostess, where she welcomed many guests, often inviting them into her home. Ramona worked at Millar and volunteered in the community alongside her husband for 35 years. Ramona travelled with David to many summer camps where they met many people from coast to coast and inspired many campers with their stories, music, and their willingness to help and make a difference. She loved to sing with David and accompany him on the piano when he played a variety of different instruments. Ramona also loved working in her garden and spending time with her family. She was a proud grandmother to her grandsons, Nathan (2006) and Matthew (2009). Ramona & David moved into Swift Current, SK in 2015 and ministered to the Fairview Church until David's health began to deteriorate. After David was admitted to the Meadows, Ramona moved into her apartment at the Golden West Manor and faithfully visited him every day until his passing in March 2020. Ramona continued to enjoy her time visiting with family, old friends, and making new friends during coffee time or around the puzzle table. She appreciated the many residents who helped her when needed and those who provided support as her health declined. She was admitted to the Cypress Regional Hospital in November 2023 and later moved to the Clover House. The family is incredibly grateful to the residents of the Golden West Manor, the Cypress Regional Hospital, and Clover House staff, who cared for and comforted her, and the dedicated friends who continued to visit until her passing. Ramona Pollard joined her husband, David, whom she dearly missed, in Heaven with her Lord and Saviour, on Monday, December 18, at the age of 88. Ramona is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Colin (Monica) Pollard; daughter, Charlene Pollard; grandsons, Nathan Pollard and Matthew Pollard; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Bruce) Christensen; sisterin-law, Violet Penner; nieces and nephew, Ronda (Richard) Paradis, Ross Penner, Shawna Christensen; and by her great-niece and nephew, Rebecca (Matthew) Richardson and Mason Christensen. Ramona was predeceased by her husband, David Pollard; parents, Bernard & Katherine Penner; brother, Bernie Penner; parents-in-law, George & Ellen Pollard; and by her brother-in-law, Charles Pollard. You will be missed, but today, you are with your Father in Heaven; there is no more pain and no more loneliness. Sleep in peace. The Graveside Service for Ramona Pollard took place on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00 pm from the Pambrun Cemetery, Pambrun, SK. The Celebration of Life luncheon was hosted in the Millar College of the Bible dining hall immediately following the Graveside Service from 2:00 – 3:30 pm. Flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Ramona Pollard, donations made to Millar College of the Bible or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
