The Swift Current Broncos lost all three games last week as they matched up with two of the top teams in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference.

Tuesday, the Broncos four-game winning streak came to an end in a 5-2 loss to the host Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Broncos led 2-0 on first-period goals from Dawson Gerwing and Clarke Caswell before the Tigers scored five unanswered goals.

Hunter St. Martin scored twice to pull the Tigers even. Oasiz Wiesblatt, Gavin Mckenna, and Kadon Mccann all scored to secure the win.

Reid Dyck took the loss with 19 saves on 24 shots. Zach Zahara made 21 saves for the Tigers.

Both teams finished one-for-four on the power play.

Friday, the Broncos let another two-goal lead evaporate in a 5-3 loss to the visiting Moose Jaw

Warriors.

The Broncos took the early lead when Mathew Ward scored only 41 seconds into his return to the line-up, his first game since Nov. 8, 2023. Jagger Firkus tied the game for the Warriors on a twoon-one late in the first period for his 33rd goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, the Broncos seemingly took control of the game early in the final period with goals from Ward and Conor Geekie over a 2:28 span. The lead was shortlived as the Warriors got goals from Firkus, Ethan Semeniuk, and Atley Calvert in 6:00 of play to take the lead. They added a Firkus goal into an empty net to complete the hat trick.

Dyck took the loss with 28 saves to fall to 9–6-0-0.

Jackson Unger made 26 saves for the Warriors.

Saturday, the Broncos fought back from a 3-0 deficit, but eventually lost 4-3 in Moose Jaw on a last-minute power play goal from Brayden Yager. Special teams were a deciding factor as the

Warriors scored twice on the power play and once while shorthanded, while the Broncos failed to capitalize on six power play opportunities.

The Warriors jumped ahead with two goals from Calvert and a shorthanded goal from Matthew Savoie. The Broncos fought back in the second period with a Ryan Mccleary goal and then two goals from Rylan Gould, all within 6:00 of each other.

Joey Rocha took the loss with 26 saves. Jackson Unger made 32 saves in his 22nd win of the season.

The Broncos remained sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 22-18-2-2 record. Moose Jaw was third at 27-15-0-2.

The Broncos will visit the Eastern Conference leading Saskatoon Blades on Sunday. The Blades have won both meetings so far in the season series.

The Broncos will also be back at home on Wednesday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
