Legionnaires trade wins and losses in SMAAAHL
The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires traded wins and losses during a four-game week in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League.
Tuesday, the Legionnaires lost the special teams battle in a 4-1 loss to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Warriors scored all four goals on the power play, while the Legionnaires were unable to capitalize on the man-advantage.
Jace Egland scored the only goal with assists from Parker Rondeau and Jackson Fox. Berney Weston took the loss with 36 saves.
Caleb Potter scored twice for Moose Jaw, while Keaton Lesperance and Max Threinen also scored. Luke Mckechnie made 33 saves in the win.
Thursday, the Legionnaires scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the visiting Notre Dame Hounds 4-2.
Rondeau led the Legionnaires with a goal and an assist, while Sam Kirwan, Wesley Olson, and Kade Stringer also scored. Will Kirwan, Connor Rieger, Jackson Fox, Mason Fauser, Griffin
Darby, and Egland all added assists. Jacob Morris earned the win with 33 saves.
Ryder Gilroy and Bryant Linklater scored for the Hounds. Russell Newman took the loss with 29 saves.
Saturday, the Legionnaires were shutout 1-0 by the host Saskatoon Contacts.
Jace Rask scored the only goal in the third period. Logan Edmonstone made 37 saves for the Blazers.
Jacob Morris took the loss with 23 saves.
Sunday, the Legionnaires turned things around with a 7-6 overtime win over the Contacts despite surrendering a late two-goal lead. Rondeau scored his second goal of the game 36 seconds into overtime to clinch the win.
Weston earned the win with 31 saves over 60:36 of work. Kayd Ruedig and Triston Mitchell-mcelhone led the Legionnaires with two goals and an assist each. Egland also had a goal and two assists. Fox and Olson both added assists as the Legionnaires improved to 22-93, tied with Warman and Regina for second in the SMAAAHL with 47 points in 34 games.
The Legionnaires will host the Regina Pat Canadians on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. They also visit the Hounds on Tuesday.
