SHSAA provincial curling playoffs get underway for SWAC athletes

Senior SWAC curlers started their road to the SHSAA provincial championsh­ip on Saturday, February 3. The top two teams from each sectional advance to the SWAC district open championsh­ip February 9-10 in Eastend, SHSAA regionals are in Regina March 1-2.

1st - Eastend - Bodie Duke, Makayla Bjornson,

Willy Li, Lola Richardson, Slade Bjornson, coach Dana Duke.

2nd Frontier - Dalen Jarman, Larissa Babiak, Camden Shirley, Everett Danskin, coach Misti Gordon.

1st - Hazlet - Tessa Todd, Braden Baumann, Vanessa Barr, Teagan Emms, Sina Muller, Aimee Brown, coach Tarryl Todd.

2nd – Cabri - Bret Fahselt, Ethan Oldhaver, Clare Meachem, Cole Andreas, coach Abby

Watson.

1st – SCCHS - Scotlyn Rogers, Lola Ruehs, Lillian Radtke, Lily Fergusen, coach Mark Kroeker.

2nd - Ponteix Alyssa Thigvold, Annika Roberge, Mia Goffinet-perrault, Hannah Ulm, coach Heather Thingvold.

1st – SCCHS - Riley Starkey, Troy Oakman, Rohne Foster, Sean Friesen, coach Ron Bailey.

2nd - Gull Lake - Tyler Lamarre, Zach Dysart,

Lucas Mcmillan, Cohen Haithwaite, Trusten Kirwan, coach Amy Dysart.

1st - SCCHS - Aryn Thibault, Shane Cornelson, Emiley Phan, Sayer Francis, Amanda Lagasse, Ethan Peters, coach Ron Bailey

2nd - Gull Lake- Emerson Sommer, Christian Kirk, Ashley Doroteo, Nataly Dietrich, coach Amy Dysart.

Junior Whitemud/ Rolling Hills/cypress Hills sectional playoffs are on February 10. Host sites are in Consul (attending Val Marie, Eastend, Shaunavon), and Gull Lake (Herbert, Ecole Centennial, Ponteix, and All Saints attending).

Hazlet will host sectional girls on Friday, February

9 (hosting Leader and Maple Creek) and the boys competitio­n will be on Saturday, February 10 (hosting Leader and Maple Creek).

On March 1-2, junior girls districts will be hosted by Consul and open/boys junior will be hosted by Eastend.

This past week’s senior boys league game had Vanguard traveling to Maple Creek. The hometown Rebels won 72-48 over Vanguard. The top scorers were: Vanguard - Jaspar Gieck (16 pts), Maple Creek - Aydan Buss (30 pts).

The last scheduled league game on Tuesday, February 6 will have Gull Lake headed to Maple Creek. Standings: Maple Creek (1st), Vanguard and

Gull Lake are tied for 2nd.

In the senior girls league, Shaunavon was in Maple Creek on Tuesday, January 30. The Maple Creek senior girls won over Shaunavon 62-23. Maple Creek top scorer: Savannah Frey (32 pts) and Shaunavon top scorer: Jolie Christense­n (8 pts).

There are two scheduled games this week: February 6 has SCCHS at Shaunavon and on February 8, Maple Creek will go to SCCHS.

Standings so far have Maple Creek undefeated (3-0), SCCHS in second (1-1), and Shaunavon looking for their first league win (0-3).

In junior boys league action, Maple Creek defeated Frontier Coed 6828. Top scorer for Maple Creek: Cecil Baynton (25 pts). Top Scorer for Frontier: Geoff Martinez (14 pts)

The second scheduled junior boys league game had Gull Lake winning over Shaunavon 59- 24. Top Scorer Gull Lake: Carter Blanke (17 pts). Top Scorer Shaunavon: Declin Stevenson (7 pts).

Junior boys league standings heading into the final week of league games: Gull Lake and Shaunavon tied (4-1), Maple Creek (2-3), Frontier Coed (0-5).
