U18 AA Broncos come back to upset Bruins

The Swift Current Southwest Sports Excellence Broncos came back to upset the third seeded Estevan Bruins in the Saskatchew­an U18 AA Hockey League playoffs.

The Broncos dropped game one 3-2 in Estevan on Wednesday. Carter Tuplin had a goal and an assist, while Ryder Bradford assisted on both goals. Brett Stusrud also scored, while Tyler Hudec added one assist. Conner Bender made 22 saves in goal.

Lucas Campbell, Sutter Baily, and Carter Hirsch all scored for the Bruins, who got 10 saves from Ty Fehrenbach.

Thursday, the Broncos tied the series with a 4-2 win at home when Ryder Bradford notched a natural hat trick in the opening 9:30 of the game. Rhett Jamieson made 34 saves to help preserve the win.

Bradford added an assist for a four-point outing. Stusrud finished with one goal and one assist. Tuplin added two assists and Tyler Hudec added a single helper.

Fehrenbach took the loss with four saves on seven shots. Jaxon Kuchinka made 18 saves over the final 50:30. Keagan

Patton scored both goals for Estevan.

Saturday, the Broncos scored the final four goals to take the series with a 5-4 road win. Tuplin and Stusrud traded goals over the final 28:12, culminatin­g with Stusrud’s game winner with 4:47 remaining in regulation.

Tuplin finished with three goals and one assist, while Stusrud scored twice. Riley Schmiess had two assists, while Riley Moberg, Tyler Hudec, Jake Hudec, and Ryden Lingenfelt­er added singles. Bender made 26 saves in the win.

Kade Phillips scored twice for Estevan, while Tristan Brownridge and Keagon Patton also scored for the Bruins.
