WIENS

Anna Eva Wiens passed away on February 29, 2024. She was born in Swift Current, SK on October 13, 1954 to Annie Fehr and Abraham Wiens. The family lived briefly in the Neville area before moving to the village of Schoenfeld when Anna was young. She then went to school in Wymark until Grade 8. Anna enjoyed the farm work and being outside with the animals. Anna was baptized in the Sommerfeld Church in Schoenfeld in 1974. Her father also passed away in 1974, leaving her to help with many jobs around the farm. In 1980 Anna went to work for Peter Neufeld in his Egg Business, grading eggs and delivering twice a week to customers in Swift Current. Anna was lovingly known as “the Egg Lady” and worked at this job until 1986. Anna remained living in Schoenfeld a couple of years after her mother passed away in 1993 and then made the big move to Swift Current. She became a paper carrier for the Booster. After a number of years at this job, she was employed with the Leader Post for whom she worked for over 30 years. Anna loved her job delivering papers. She loved the routine of getting up early and knowing what her day would be like, ready to tell her stories to everyone she met. Attending church on Sunday mornings was important to Anna. She was active in Cornerstone EMC church for over 20 years after which Anna made the decision to make Zion Mennonite Church her faith community and was received into membership in December 2018. Anna was committed to doing her work well for others and was eager to be helpful and contribute wherever she could even if it was only bringing pickles to potlucks because she didn't really like cooking but wanted to bring something. Even through life’s adversities and health struggles in the last years, Anna had a strong faith. She would leave things up to God and trust things would be ok. She was determined to keep going, a little stubborn at times, but this kept her independent as long as possible. Anna was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Abraham Wiens, her half-brother Peter, her grandparents and by her aunts and uncles. Anna is survived by her younger sister Angela; an aunt; her niece and nephew; great nieces and nephews and by her cousins. We will miss Anna’s smile and generosity.
