18U AAA 57’s win three straight to open season
The Swift Current 18U AAA 57’s opened the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League regular season with three straight wins at home over the weekend.
The 57’s won both games on opening day against the visiting Sask Five Marlins. They scored the opening seven runs of the day to take game one 7-4. Kyrell Adair tossed four scoreless innings as he held the Marlins to two hits and one walk while striking out five. Adair also had a double and a run batted in at the plate.
Aiden Kilshaw singled, walked, stole two bases, and scored two runs. Hudson Unger singled, walked twice, and had one RBI. Mason Fauser singled, stole a base, and scored twice. Danon Funk singled, was hit by a pitch, scored, and had one RBI. Levi Wills walked, scored, and had one RBI as well.
The 18U AAA 57’s followed up with a 6-1 win when three pitchers combined to hold the Marlins to three hits over seven innings. Funk made the start and struck out four while allowing one run over three innings. Carson Rokochy earned the win with three scoreless innings as he struck out a pair. Kilshaw pitched a scoreless seventh inning, retiring all three batters
he faced.
Fauser led the 57’s with two singles and three RBI’S. Landen Phair added three singles, one run scored, and one RBI. Unger singled twice and scored. Wills singled and scored in the win.
The 57’s added a 3-2 win over the visiting Saskatoon Diamondbacks on Sunday when Fauser and Ethan Bailey teamed up on the mound.
Fauser held the Diamondbacks to three hits, two walks, and one run while striking out three over three innings. Bailey struck out seven over the final four innings, allowing three hits, two walks, and one run.
Wesley Olson sparked the offence from the bottom of the batting order with a single, a double, one run scored, and one RBI. Funk also
doubled and scored. Rylan Fehr singled and had one RBI. Kilshaw singled, walked, and stole a base.
The 18U AAA 57’s are at home for three more league games this weekend, beginning Saturday with a double header against the White Butte Broncos beginning at 1 p.m. They also play the Saskatoon Giants on Sunday at 3 p.m.
