A picture perfect night for Titans
On Wednesday night Central Elgin Collegiate Institute opened its doors once again for its annual open house. Each year, the school is delighted to welcome Grade 8 students and their families to experience the CECI difference.
The families are invited to explore the building and speak with the many staff and students around the school, all while participating in an informational session within the gym, fun demonstrations and activities and performances by the Jazz band.
The exciting night also provides a space for clubs and teams to showcase their spirit as they share experiences, explain their purpose and most importantly meet eager new recruits.
“I am always impressed with how many students volunteer to be involved with this event. It is beyond rewarding to see how proud our school members are of CECI as they interact with grade 8 students and demonstrate what our school is all about,” said Ezra Nicholson, an events coordinator and teacher of the leadership class.
This, along with the variety of hands on activities, engages current CECI students with future Titans, reinforcing strong school spirit and showcasing the sense of community that sets the small yet powerful high school apart from all others.
CECI made the 2019 open house different from any previous year with an artistic addition.
One may even call the night museum worthy, as the school debuted a collage-style mural created by over half of the student body.
The piece is based around the school’s colour houses, a fun, Harry Potter-esque system that promotes team building and involvement within the school community.
The piece highlights this aspect of the school, serving as an embodiment of CECI’s positivity and reflecting the sense of community that makes Central home.
The mural will continue to call Central’s walls home.
As the entire school came together once again, it was clear that students and teachers are beyond excited to showcase their terrific school and welcome future titans.
The sense of community that Central radiates is so strong that it is almost unbelievable. Yet, through events like open house that inspire projects including the school mural, it is clear that this positive vibe is the vivid reality that makes CECI picture perfect.
