Tsuut’ina Nation development gets ‘amazing’ name
Project valued at an estimated $4.5 billion
In a word: it’s amazing.
The Tsuut’ina Nation has been working with Canderel MDC Development Management Inc. to prepare a 1,200-acre development near the still-under-construction Southwest Ring Road.
We now know the name of the development: Taza.
“The elders gave us the word to use,” said William Briscoe, CEO of Canderel. “It means that something amazing is coming. It’s also an expression for excitement and surprise.”
Also amazing is the estimated value the developer is now putting on the project: $4.5 billion to $5 billion.
The development will be in three sections: Taza Park, Taza Crossing and Taza Exchange.
The 17 million square feet of space will be used for various purposes, including retail, innovation and research campuses, heath care and office facilities.
Briscoe said they’ve had national and international interest from people regarding leasing the future facilities, but more details on that will be revealed in January, when they officially launch branding for the development.
He said the scope of the project is ambitious.
“We want anyone who comes into the development to recognize they are on Tsuut’ina land, that the culture and tradition is reflected in the built forum.”
