Wadsworth aims to be ‘virtuous’
Being Erica star a mom in Holly Hobbie Benjamin Wadsworth in first lead role in Deadly Class debuting Wednesday on Space
TELEVISION For some Canadian TV viewers, Erin Karpluk will forever be known as the young woman coming to terms with herself with the help of an unconventional therapist in the comedy-drama Being Erica.
In the new Family Channel series Holly Hobbie (which airs Saturdays and Sundays), Karpluk is the one offering guidance as the mother of the lead character, 13-year-old Holly.
It’s part of the evolution of her career, she said in a phone interview. “I’m getting older as an actress,” said Karpluk, who’s 40. “I’m taking on more mature roles.”
It’s also her first role in a program geared toward children and tweens.
“A lot of my friends have kids,” she said. “I really was excited about being able to show all my friends’ children something I was proud of that they could actually watch.” Full story at thestar.com/entertainment/ television Benjamin Wadsworth is only 19, but he already has firm ideas about what he doesn’t want to do as an actor.
“I really just dislike playing the boy-next-door character,” he says in a phone interview. “I find it mundane and boring.”
Lucky for him the character he plays in the new TV series Deadly Class is anything but. Debuting Wednesday at 10 p.m. on Space, the show is based on the comic-book series of the same name, about a teenager recruited into a private school in which the students are training to be assassins. Teen angst takes on a whole new meaning when the bullies specialize in mortal combat. The part of Marcus Lopez, a homeless orphan until he joins King’s Dominion, sees Wadsworth in a new position for him: the Actors Michel Duval and Benjamin Wadsworth star as Chico and Marcus in Deadly Class. lead.
“This is my biggest role,” says the Houston, Texas-born actor, who played Iggy in the comedy web series Dad vs. Lad and appeared in Teen Wolf.
The pressure of being the star was “a bit overwhelming”
at first but also very exciting, and “when we got to it I could handle it, and the excitement stayed.”
