Group home worker arrested for alleged sexual assault of 11-year-old in his care
worker has been arrested after being accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a child in his care, according to an ALERT release.
The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit arrested a 40-year-old man on Friday, charging him with numerous offences related to child sexual exploitation and child pornography.
The victim, police said, was 11 years old.
ALERT Staff Sgt. Stephen Camp told reporters that the investigation began after ICE received information from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre about a suspect accessing child pornography.
“When that referral was made, ICE had very little information besides an IP address,” he said.
“Through the analytical support, we were able to identify a suspect and learn that he was employed at an Edmonton group home.”
Camp said once the investigative team verified a man’s identity, it led to an arrest.
Samer Temraz, 40, is charged with sexual exploitation, sexual assault, sexual interference, possession of child pornography, transmitting child pornography and making child pornography. The RCMP gave the Internet Child Exploitation unit a tip that led to an investigation.
