StarMetro Halifax - - THE FEED -

Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia has the perfect solution for the person who has everything on your gift list. With the Habi-tat for Humanity online GiftBuilder store you can donate the value of regularly used building supplies and tools in the name of a friend or family member.

“The items included in our gift giving catalogue are all things that we would nor-mally purchase,” says Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia marketing and communications director Kathryn Toope. “We then send out a specially created video that can be used to notify your loved one that a gift has been made in their honour.”

Since 1992 Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia has been working to help families build and purchase quality affordable homes. The organization provides quali-fied families with no down payment, no interest mortgages, capped at 30 per cent of a family’s annual income. Recipients are required to contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” to the project, either by working on their house or by volunteering with other projects.

Toope says the online store is a great antidote for wasteful gift giving. “We offer customized donation packages, and we also have opportunities for corporate donations. It’s a great way to support our work.”
