Defence suggests alleged victim kissed taxi driver, took off her own pants
A defence lawyer representing a Halifax cab driver accused of sexual assault suggested in court the woman kissed the driver before taking off her own pants.
Defence lawyer Ian Hutchison made the suggestion Thursday as he was cross-examining the woman, who testified Wednesday she had no memory of leaving Boomer’s bar downtown or getting into a cab on May 22, 2015. She told Halifax provincial court she had been drinking a lot and was quite intoxicated, and her next clear memory was at the hospital in the care of two nurses.
Hutchison’s cross-examination came on the fourth day of a retrial of Bassam Alrawi before Judge Ann Marie Simmons.
Const. Monia Thibault testified earlier this week she found the passenger unconscious and naked from the chest down in the back seat of the cab, while Al-rawi was in the front, pushing the woman’s inside-out jeans beside the driver’s seat.
