ANYTHING BUT SUBTLE
Everardo Ozuna’s 2007 GMC Sierra Classic
EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING THAT MOTIVATES THEM. Regardless of their focus or passion, many were led to their path by someone they looked up to as a role model. For Everardo Ozuna, it started when he was in high school. Everardo had no urge to be in the NFL, nor did he want to be a lawyer. His life goal was to one day become a member of the Ground Zero family. When he turned 18, he began working on a 2006 Silverado project, but it just wasn’t enough for him at the time, so he sold it to begin work on a true show truck.
Setting his standards high, Everardo got work the day after Christmas 2015. “I knew I had to step my game up to get into Ground Zero, so I decided to buy a 2007 GMC Sierra Classic. That’s where it all began.”
He got started by minimizing wheel gap. He sent the Sierra to Drop Shop Customs to have it laid on the ground where it belonged. Using a custom 2-link chassis setup and an Ekstensive front suspension kit, the GMC was laid out in no time. With the air suspension and enlarged rear tubs in the truck bed, the Intro Torino wheels were ready to be fit into their new home. With just a few minor modifications to the original plans, the 26x12-inch rear wheels finally sat perfectly in the newly modified and aired-out bed.
For many builders, choosing the interior is one of the most important decisions of a build because it’s where they’ll spend most of their time once the truck is finished. Everardo didn’t take the task lightly. After much deliberation, he went with smooth, light tan leather for most of the cab, including the dash, seats, headliner, door panels and even the custom Cadillac
Escalade center console. For an extra fillip of flair, he had the team at RGV Upholstery add quilted diamond stitching on top of their already excellent work. With billet touches on everything from the AC vents to the steering wheel, it’s difficult to remember that the interior used to be pewter colored. One week later, the guys at Audio Shop in Pharr, Texas, got to work installing a powerful setup consisting of multiple pairs of Orion speakers, as well as a massive pair of 15-inch Sundown Audio subwoofers.
The icing on the cake was the paint, which was applied the day after Audio Shop completed the sound system. The truck went directly to
KME Auto Body Specialist where it was transformed with a custom-mixed blue pearl. The only thing missing was the graphics, so Indio of Indio Designs stepped in to fix that little problem and laid down the silky gray and red graphics across the freshly painted bedside.
Everardo’s dreams came true mid-build in September 2016 when his friend and senior Ground Zero club member invited him to become a part of the family. Having completed the build in February 2017, with his Ground Zero brothers by his side, Everardo debuted the Sierra at the 2017 Lone Star Throwdown and the truck has been turning heads ever since.
