LAYIN’ AT THE LAKE

EAST TEXAS TRUCK SHOW

- WORDS BY CHRIS HAMILTON PHOTOS BY JONATHAN HAWKINS

IF YOU'RE NEAR EAST TEXAS NORTH OF HOUSTON, WE HAVE A KILLER TRUCK EVENT FOR YOU TO CHECK OUT. Layin' at the Lake was founded by Chad and Emilie Moss as a fun weekend get together for custom car and truck enthusiasts. Chad grew up in East Texas and as a child regularly visited Salmon Lake Park, so he knew since day one this was the perfect spot for an epic auto event.

Salmon Lake Park is a unique private recreational vehicle park in Grapeland, Texas. It is famous for its bluegrass festival. They offer cabins rentals, RV, and tent camping year-round. They host family and school reunions, parties, car shows, and festivals. Large open areas, rustic photography opportunities, 22 rebuilt cabins on-site, and 300-plus RV hookups help create a laid-back and relaxed show that's fun for the whole family. Chad's late grandmother always said, "If you don't get kids into the church, it will die." We feel that this is true for the car/ truck scene as well, that's why we strive to have a family fun show

Delta Tire Wheel and Customs helps sponsor this event and the fine crew with Xtreme Lows takes the task of operations during the event. Chad made sure there were practical rules in place to ensure a successful event. Firstly, 20 mph is the fastest anyone can drive through the whole park. There is no tolerance for drunken or disorderly acts. You will be asked to leave if you are not respectful to staff, show vehicles, Salmon Lake Park or people residing in RVS and spectators. Absolutely no doughnuts, burn outs, dragging, loud music, or anything that can cause damage to the park grounds. Judging is be done as you drive in the show and awards are on Sunday like usual.

Sound like your kind of weekend event? Be sure to follow this team online so you know the official 2022 dates. Hope to see you out there this year!
