Falling FOR FALL

I’ve noticed we Canadians tend to fall into two groups at this time of the year: those who love autumn and those who, well…not so much.

Like it or not, fall is here, so we’ve devoted this issue of Style at Home to getting you in a seasonally appropriate (and upbeat) mood. What better way is there to help us appreciate autumn than engaging in some cozy nesting? To inspire you, our Market Watch column highlights what’s trending now. I love – and I think you will, too – the artisanal ware and accessories in autumnal colours.

Spring cleaning? Sure, it’s a well-known ritual. But we think the return to indoor living is the perfect time to organize inside. In “Hidden Treasures” and “Orderly by Design,” we explore how to integrate permanent storage solutions into open-concept and smaller spaces.

You’ll find more practical advice for beautifying your home in our lesson on planning window treatments. Or maybe it’s time to head to the dark side? We show you how to decorate with black – the classic standby that, when done right, adds instant sophistication to a room.

If you are still in doubt about fall, our look at the restoration of a historic farmhouse decked out for the season will convince you autumn in Canada is stunning. I especially love the porch! All of the homes featured in this issue have me dreaming of beautiful ways to cocoon at home this fall and winter. I hope they inspire you, too!
