A FOR PLACE EVERYTHING

Whether you’re planning a reno or organizing a cluttered cabinet, these storage solutions bring order to the hardest working room in the house.

01 DOUBLE UP

Shelf risers are a brilliant way to double the storage capacity in cabinets or in a pantry cupboard with minimal investment. Who doesn’t need more storage space?

02 FLOATING ISLAND

Let’s face it, some kitchens are too tiny for an island. Genius solution: put one on wheels! Quality casters let you push a small island against the wall when not in use, so the flow of the room isn’t permanently disrupted. Choose one with open storage for pretty plates and woven baskets. This island has a smart vertical section for cutting boards. Consider having a countertop made specially for the island: choose butcher block or, for bakers, opt for marble. For a coordinated look, use the same countertop surface used elsewhere in the kitchen.

03 PUT A LID ON IT

If you stack your pots, you know the pain of searching for the right lid. This DIY solution takes up less space than off-theshelf lid holders. Remove the door and lay it flat on the floor; measure lids, then cut strong vinyl strips to length and secure them with the right size of screws and nuts appropriate for the depth and material of the door.

04 LOST & FOUND

Look for found space that would otherwise be wasted, such as the top of cabinets and the insides of doors. A simple but smart solution is to attach a ready-made spice rack to the inside of a pantry door. Tip: store most-used spices at the perfect height so you can easily grab what you need. Remember to choose a solid model, or have one custom made by a carpenter, so that the containers stay in place when opening and closing the door.

05 OUT OF SIGHT

If you have an open-plan home where the kitchen is visible from the living areas, a great trick for keeping things out of sight (and therefore out of mind) is to hide open shelving and other storage behind over-size sliding doors. This not only keep things organized and accessible, but transforms the open space from work zone to a relaxing, clutter-free area.

06 PREMIUM PARKING

The classic appliance garage gets a stylish update thanks to a sleek stainless-steel door. This custom garage is equipped for breakfast: roll up the door, pull out the shelf, slice up your bread on the pull-out maple shelf, and pop it in the toaster. Rise and shine!

07 3-IN-1

What’s behind drawer number one? Another drawer, and another! For a sleek modern kitchen, less is more when it comes to separate components. Hiding numerous drawers or shelves within a single component reduces the visual clutter of a room. Opt for full extension drawers with automatic closing mechanisms for maximum storage and smooth opening and closing. Tip: don’t store frequently used items like everyday cutlery in drawers within doors – save these spaces for speciality silverware or linens.

08 POP UP HELPER

We love ingenious solutions for small appliance storage! This pop-up shelf has a sturdy springloaded support system that slides out of its hiding spot and gently rises to counter height. Tip: install a power outlet in the cabinet for super-easy use.

09 SORT IT OUT

Times have changed. We need to be able to sort at the source when it comes to kitchen waste. Equip one mega-size drawer near the sink (for chopping and cleaning up ease) with several bins so that you can sort compost, recyclables and garbage in one place. Hire a good cabinetmaker or kitchen cabinet company to retrofit your existing kitchen – you won’t regret this investment. Choose top-end hardware and strong, easy-to-lift containers that are big enough so you won’t be emptying them frequently. Smart!
