BOATING SUPPORT FROM THE KELOWNA YACHT CLUB

From its annual boat show to the Public Mooring Buoy Program,, the KYC gives back to recreational boaters in more ways than one.

Like many bodies of water across North America, both expansive and secluded, Okanagan Lake has an array of mooring buoys at many destination points, providing added convenience at scenic anchorages for recreational boaters.

In fact, the Kelowna Yacht Club (KYC) has been instrumental on its own accord to support these efforts since 1995 through its exclusive Public Mooring Buoy Program, which is funded by the exhibitor fees from its popular Kelowna Boat Show every spring. For over two decades, the program has ensured that additional moorage bouys are available on the lake, and that they are well maintained to offer reliable mooring options for years to come.

Currently, 30 mooring buoys are located north of the bridge between Raymer Bay and Caesar’s Landing, and all are monitored in the event rigging repairs, re-installations or re-locations are required.

“The mooring buoys are available for all recreational boaters to further enjoy Okanagan

Lake,” says Leona Smith, Sales and Marketing Manager for the KYC. “Even though “KYC” is listed on the actual mooring buoy, anyone can use them. As the KYC is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, we have been part of the community for a long time. This program is just one way we have been giving back to the boating community, while encouraging family boating and safety on the lake.”

Don’t Miss the 2020 Kelowna Boat Show

Held at the KYC April 25-26, 2020, the Kelowna Boat Show celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and showcases many great options and products to further enjoy the boating lifestyle. With exhibitors from the Okanagan Valley, many parts of the BC Interior and other regions in the province, the event showcases up to 150 new boat models – from cruisers and wakeboard boats to pontoons and runabouts – plus an assortment of water sports gear, safety equipment and more.

Additionally, the entry fees to the boat show will support the KYC’s Youth Sailing

School, which is open to public enrollment and welcomes children as young as four years-old and adults of all ages.
