ALEX ( FLASHDANCE, 1983)

SundayXtra - - ENTERTAINMENT -

SHE’S just a steel-town girl on a Saturday night — who apparently can’t find better way to make rent than welding all day and dumping buckets of water on herself ( sorry, “ dancing”) at a bar by night. Look, it’s all just to show the audience that reaching for that rainbow is hard work, you guys. Especially if your dream-beyond-dreams is to study at a prestigious dance conservatory, and the only thing you can put under “ experience” on the application form is “ five years of accessorizing with legwarmers.” But Alex’s ( Jennifer Beals) hard work, long hours ( and a sweet connection through her boyfriend) eventually land her the audition that changes her life ( and went on to inspire way too many music videos. We’re looking at you, J. Lo and Geri Halliwell).
