In fact, it’s a 65-km trek from the north coast where most boats land to the camps in south­east­ern Les­bos, where all new ar­rivals are re­quired to register. With only nine buses to trans­port the thou­sands of peo­ple who ar­rive daily, en­tire fam­i­lies can be seen walk­ing along Les­bos’s steep, wind­ing roads at all hours of day and night.
