Ausmus will be back in ’16
DETROIT — Al Avila heard the reports he had already decided to fire Brad Ausmus. He didn’t pay much attention.
After all, the new Detroit Tigers general manager knew he hadn’t made that decision yet.
He finally did Saturday, announcing Ausmus would be back in 2016 for a third season.
Avila replaced Dave Dombrowski in early August, and immediately announced he would be doing a complete review of the organization.
When reports said Ausmus would be fired at the end of the season, Avila simply issued a statement saying the review was still ongoing and decisions would be made before the end of the season.
True to Avila’s word, Ausmus was informed with almost a week left in the season he was coming back despite Detroit’s first to worst tumble.
