Why buy a curved tv?
Just what’s wrong with flat pictures?
You get more screen
A curved TV isn’t just a gimmick. There are actual tangible benefits: you’ll see a tiny sliver of extra screen real estate when viewing an angled panel straight on, as long as you’re close enough. Your peripheral vision also plays a part; unscientific, perhaps, but there’s little arguing that the more picture filling your eyes, the more immersive your viewing experience will be. In larger panels, this leads to a perceptible difference in picture sharpness at the corners.
They’re pretty
Aesthetics can be just as important as functionality, especially when it concerns the big, black rectangle dominating your lounge. Don’t buy a TV because it’s cheap or because of the number of pixels it’s packing; make sure it’s something you could put up with seeing for 5-10 years. That curve could make all the difference.
They’re better inside
Since curved panels generally represent the upper reaches of most manufacturers’ product lines, you’ll benefit from the best internals alongside your fancy bendy screen – better blacks, smarter smart features and refined picture algorithms for the absolute best image going. Samsung is even processing images specifically to make use of the extra depth afforded by curved screens – a layer of definition you won’t find elsewhere.
Reduced reflections – maybe
This one’s highly influenced by the position of your TV compared to light sources in and around your room, but you could find that a curved panel will pick up fewer reflections. You could also find that it picks up more, however.
