Urbanears Baggen

While the Baggen’s minimalist design and muted colour options might scream ‘retro’, there’s actually lots of cool tech inside. Use it as a standalone Bluetooth speaker, hardwire it to your turntable, or connect multiple speakers and access internet radio or streaming services, via AirPlay or Google Cast.

Sonos Playbase

It didn’t win, but it came close. Although its primary function is to produce epic home cinema sound, the Playbase integrates with other Sonos multi-room speakers so you’ll never be far from your favourite jams. Load up the Sonos app to access streaming services, plus internet radio stations, podcasts and audiobooks.

B&O Play M5

Linking multiple speakers is no problem with the M5’s built-in Google Chromecast and B&O Beolink tech. Three tweeters, a front facing mid-range driver and a powerful woofer guarantee optimised, room-filling audio, while each speaker can be fine-tuned based on its position in the room through the Beoplay app.

Master & Dynamic MA770

Dual woven kevlar woofers, a titanium tweeter and solid concrete casing are just some of the hardcore components that make up each MA770, producing a warm, muscular sound. Playlists can also be streamed from your device to multiple speakers around the house using the built-in Chromecast connection.

Riva Arena

The best option for multi-room audio on a budget, the Arena produces genuine stereo sound thanks to fancy Trillium tech. Play DJ from a range of sources thanks to boundless connection options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay and DLNA. An optional battery pack means you can take it out of the house, too.
