AMATT BOLTON REPLIES: Cooking a perfect turkey is one of life’s great challenges. Even if you’re looking at some other kind of roast, getting it right on a day so intrinsically full of distractions is a big feat. The Samsung Prezio Electric Oven (£499, samsung.com) uses digital temperature control to ensure a consistent cook, and can be split into two individual temperature zones, meaning you don’t have to scorch your main roast at the same temperature as the rest of your ovenables. Hoover’s Vision oven (£1,499, hoover.co.uk) goes one further, replacing the usual cloudy front window with a touch screen. Oh, and there’s a camera inside the oven, so you can keep tabs on your dinner (and tweak the temperature) from the associated app.
That said, seeing the goings- on will only really tell you how crispy your roast is getting on the outside. The internal temperature is the real key point, and while there are plenty of jab-in thermometers out there, we’ve been most taken by the app- driven Meater+ (£99,meater.com) recently. It can withstand oven temperatures up to 275C (if you’re roasting past this point you’re doing something wrong), and its battery lasts for more than 24 hours, which is enough to cover even the slowest cook.
If you’re looking to cut out the hassle, why not try something new? Drop your turkey into the Wi- Fi- enabled Char- Broil Digital Smoker (£370) the night before, let it do its thing, and you’ll get a smoky,
