Crosley CT200

$70 (£55), crosleyradio.com

-

Crosley, maker of those briefcase turntables you see in HMV’s windows, is keeping the retro audio revival going with its new radio and tape player decks. It hasn’t bothered to inject any modernity into the look: this could have come straight from the Trading Places set, and we love it.

There are no hidden 2018 modcons here either: no Bluetooth, no Wi- Fi, no rechargeable battery. You can plug it in to play, or take it away with you, once you’ve stuffed in a pile of big D batteries.

You’ve got AM/FM radio, with a proper dial for tuning, plus a working VU meter to check you’re not overblowing the sound. There’s even a built in mic you can use to record to tape, so you can add a special message to the lucky person who’s receiving your next mixtape.

T3 SAYS: We don’t have any tapes left to play on it, but we want it anyway, like most retro consoles.
