Opulent opti cs to make your camera really shine

01 Canon RF lens es

The EOS R uses a completely new lens mount, not seen on any previous Canon camera. Currently there are four RF-mount lenses available, consisting of a 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro lens for close-up photography, a 50mm f/1.2 for general purpose and low-light shots, a 24-105mm f/4 zoom lens that can be purchased as a kit with the EOS R body for £3,269, and finally there’s the RF 28-70mm f/2 lens that sacrifices image stabilisation for a large aperture and better low-light performance.

02 Nikon Z lens es

Like the EOS R, Nikon’s Z cameras also feature a brand new lens mount. You can choose from three Z-mount lenses, including 35mm and 50mm f/1.8 fixed focal length optics tuned to give the best possible image sharpness, while the Z 24-70mm f/4 S is available separately or as a bundle with the Z 7, bringing the combined price to £3,999. Nikon is also teasing us with a new, ultra-wide-aperture 58mm f/0.95 S Noct lens, designed as an ultimate low-light lens.

03 Fujifilm G lens es

Fujifilm’s G-mount has been around longer than the RF and Z mounts, and Fujifilm has now developed seven compatible GF-series lenses for it. Six of these are prime lenses to maximise image quality. Focal lengths go from a wide 23mm (equivalent to an 18mm full-frame lens) through to a 250mm telephoto lens. The only G-mount zoom lens is a 32-64mm f/4 optic. All G-mount lenses have a four-figure price.

04 Adapters

Both Canon and Nikon have designed their new lens mounts to be compatible with a wide range of EF and F-mount DSLR lenses, via a small adaptor ring. Canon’s EF-EOS R mount adaptor is bundled with every EOS R at no extra charge. Nikon’s FTZ adaptor is £269 separately, but it’s cheaper to buy it bundled with the Z 7.
