Gadget Guru’s magic box

-

Whatever will those geniuses at Nanoleaf think of next? They started with the triangular Aurora panels, then stepped up to four sides with the square-shaped Canvas lights, and now they’ve gone and added a whole bunch of extra edges with the hexagonal, er, Hexagon (£TBC). Due for release later this year, and packing Nanoleaf’s usual touch sensitivity, RGB programmability and pleasing low-profile design, they’re top of GaGu’s shopping list for his office wall. He still prefers the LIFX Tile, mind – which has just added its own touch sensitivity, because apparently LIFX built in an accelerometer from the start but simply never made use of it – but its five-panel limit means it doesn’t have the same potential for going nuts with designs. When Guru does sit down in the gadget cupboard to get on with some work, it’s usually against the clock so as to reserve more time for activities. There is no better way to mark the passing of time than with the clack of a retro-styled flip clock, and Karlsson’s quality plastic-andchrome caseless number (£100) does the trick of applying time pressure and irritating GaGu enough that he can’t wait to escape his office as quickly as possible.

In terms of activities, Guru and his chafed thighs have been sorely tempted to join his excellent wife on the ebike kick. But there’s a problem: the only bike he wants is the one his muscular governatorial hero Arnie rides – that would be the badass Haibike 2018

SDURO FullSeven LT 8.0 ($3,999/£3,039) – but it’s not available in the UK . Will Guru be able to make do with the FullSeven Life 3.0 (£2,499) and its 250W Yamaha PW-SE motor? Only time will tell. Considering Guru’s commute is one big hill both ways it might make sense, as long as the 500Wh battery holds up its end of the bargain.
