WHAT WILL THE BEST PRIME DAY DEALS OF 2022 BE?
We won’t know the exact deals Amazon will be offering until Prime Day itself: Amazon only announces a small proportion of its Amazon Prime Day deals in the days running up to the event. But we can make some very confident predictions based on what we’ve seen over the last seven Prime Days, while at T3.com we’ll be working round the clock to track the best deals over the two days.
Some of the biggest discounts will be on Amazon’s own products. If you’re thinking of buying an Echo smart speaker, a Fire TV Stick, a Kindle e-reader, or if you’re interested in products from any of Amazon’s sub-brands – such as its Ring and Blink security cameras and doorbells or its Eero Wi-Fi mesh routers – then we’d recommend hanging on until Prime Day. There hasn’t been a single Prime Day when Amazon hasn’t heavily discounted its own products. And while it doesn’t usually discount all of them – it might discount the Kindle Paperwhite but not the Kindle Oasis, or take money off the Fire 10 HD tablet but not the Kids edition – the discounts it offers are usually significant and across multiple models in each category.
You can also expect decent deals on Amazon’s content services: Amazon Music, Amazon Prime Video, Kindle Unlimited and its ebook company Audible. If Amazon does the same as it has in previous years, expect to see generous introductory offers for new subscribers rather than permanent price cuts.
On Prime Day Amazon also tends to offer good discounts on a wide range of brands. The biggest deals are often on TVs, headphones, sports and fitness equipment, grooming products such as electric shavers and electric toothbrushes, small appliances and beauty products. Where many Black Friday deals tend to be focused on presents you’d buy for other people, Prime Day deals are more likely to be on products you’d be buying for yourself or for your home.
One thing we don’t think you’ll see is big discounts on hard-to-find products, so for example PlayStation 5s are still tricky to source so it’s very much a seller’s market there: Amazon is unlikely to cut the price of something that’s still selling out in seconds. As a result we don’t expect to see big PS5 discounts on Prime Day – or at least, we don’t expect to see them on stand-alone consoles. Deals on games console bundles, where the console comes with some games and/or additional accessories, are much more likely. We might also see some Xbox console deals, as they’re more plentiful: the Xbox Series S has been relatively easy to find and stock shortages affecting the Series X appear to be over. But Sony is still struggling to meet demand and we don’t expect to see PS5 discounting until at least Black Friday, at the end of November.
And there are some devices you definitively won’t find in Prime Day deals. Recent Apple hardware is very rarely offered below Apple’s RRP, although we expect you’ll fare better with older products – so for example during the last Prime Day Apple’s AirPods Max were offered with serious savings. And Amazon doesn’t sell Google’s smart home devices, so if you’re thinking about trying to get Google smart home tech on the cheap you’ll need to look elsewhere. In previous Prime Days we’ve seen retailers such as Currys offering good deals on Google hardware, and sites such as AO.com are worth a look too.
We’ve put together a selection of products that we think are very likely to be discounted on Prime Day, or perhaps even before then. We’ve chosen them because they’re popular and because they’ve been out for a while, so they’re very good candidates for some summertime discounting. The prices we’ve listed are our predicted Prime Day deals, based on what we’ve seen in previous Amazon sales events and in other retailers’ sales.
